
Women's Soccer Drop Contest Against Stony Brook

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Stony Brook at Patriots Point Thursday, October 16.
Charleston's overall record is now 7-6-2 with a 3-3-1 CAA record. With two games left to play in the regular season, Charleston now sits in third in the CAA's South division, ahead of Campbell, Elon, and Hampton.
Stony Brook drew a penalty kick in the 32nd minute and converted to go up 1-0.
Nearly ten minutes later, Cougars goalkeeper Ainsley Chunn made a heroic save in the upper 90 to keep the score 1-0 entering the locker room.
Charleston narrowly outshot Stony Brook in the first half eight to seven and had four corner kicks to the Seawolves two.
Emma Wennar took one of her game-high four shots directly out of the locker room, looking to kick start the Cougar offense.
Charleston had a chance in the 55th minute on its fifth corner kick of the night in the of the foot of Shra Vidovic but could not connect.
Stony Brook converted defense to offense to respond with their second and final goal of the evening in the 70th minute.
With a quick return following the goal, Chunn found herself 1-on-1 with a Seawolf and was able to make the save in the 72nd minute to keep it 2-0.
In the remaining 20 minutes, Charleston outshot Stony Brook seven to two. The Cougars took 21 shots in total compared to Stony Brook's ten.
Maderia Gwozdo earned her first career start in the contest. Caroline Fowlkes was the next leading shot taker after Wennar for Charleston with three, while Chunn recorded four saves on the night.
The College remains home to host Hofstra for the last home game of the regular season Sunday, October 19. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Patriots Point. The game will feature a Pups at the Pitch theme along with Alumni celebrations.
