CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Charleston women's tennis team finished the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional Championships Tuesday afternoon.
In total, the Cougars collected seven wins at Chewning Tennis Center.
"Sia Cariov demonstrated that she can compete with the best players in the country," head coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "After winning two matches to qualify for the main draw, she was in a match the could have gone either way with the eventual Champion Savannah Dada-Mascoll, coming up just short in three sets. Overall, it was a good outing for the Cougars and a great learning experience for our participants."
Sophomore Sia Cariov earned four wins in Chapel Hill, besting Mia Miranda of Western Carolina in three sets before sweeping Juana Weiss-Gomez of NC A&T in qualifying to advance to the main draw.
Although Cariov dropped her opening match in the main draw, she bounced back and earned another pair of wins as the Delray Beach, Fla. native picked up her third win due to injury and swept Ni Xi of Charlotte for her fourth victory.
Oziera Ahmad also had a solid week at the tournament, earning three total victories. In qualifying, the junior from Hampton, N.H. bested Jenelle Roberts from Western Carolina in a two set match before triumphing over Madison Cordisco of Elon in three sets to also earn a spot in the main draw.
In the consolation bracket of the main draw, Oziera tabbed a third win via injury.
