
Cougars Finish Non-Conference Play with Dominant Win Over Janes

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-3) wrapped up its non-conference slate with a dominant 114-40 win over UPR Mayaguez (0-6) at the Puerto Rico Clasico Saturday Afternoon.
After being picked as the Coastal Athletic Association preseason favorites, the Cougars will head into conference play with the best record in the league, 8-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Barbot twins got the scoring going as Taylor and Taryn began the game with three buckets before Anilys Rolon and Tyja Beans scored to put CofC up 13-0.
- From there, four more Cougars added their names to the stat sheet as Charleston held a 34-9 lead after 10 minutes.
- Aubrey Stevenson scored her first career points, but UPR Mayaguez won the second quarter as the game headed to the half with Charleston holding a 46-25 edge.
- Charleston scored the second half's first 14 points as the Cougars won the quarter 33-6 and held a 79-31 advantage after the third quarter.
- The Cougars held the Janes to single digits in the fourth quarter as they scored 35 points in the final stanza en route to a 114-40 win.
LEADING COUGARS
- Junior Taylor Barbot dished out a game-high seven assists, scored 15 points and recorded four steals.
- Junior Taryn Barbot scored 17 points, grabbed five boards and recorded three steals.
- Junior Tyja Beans tallied 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
- Senior Marissa Brown recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo collected her third double-double of the season as she tallied 16 points and 11 boards. She also tabbed three steals.
- Sophomore Leah Philpotts posted a career-high with 17 points and tied her career-best with four steals.
- Freshman Anilys Rolon set a career-high with 16 points.
KEY STATS
- Charleston shot 54.5% from the field and held UPR Mayaguez to a 30.8% clip.
- The Cougars forced 29 Jane turnovers, collected 22 steals and scored 40 points off turnovers.
- CofC dominated the paint, outscoring UPR Mayaguez 58-22.
- Charleston scored 19 second chance points and 32 fast break points.

- Seven Cougars scored in double figures and a total of 10 Charleston players scored in the game.

- Grace Ezebilo eclipsed the 600 point mark for her career.
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,264th point as a Cougar and is 17th on the Cougars all-time scoring list.
- Freshman Aubrey Stevenson scored her first career points.
- Leah Philpotts' 17 points set a new career-high.
- The 16 points from Anilys Rolon was her career-best.
