Women's Basketball Returns Home for CAA Opener Against Hofstra

CHARLESTON, S.C – The College of Charleston women's basketball team returns to TD Arena for its Coastal Athletic Association opener against Hofstra Friday night.

OPENING TIP — CofC, the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorites, finished non-conference play 8-3 with quality wins at Quinnipiac (a top-30 mid-major program) and at Florida State.
The Cougars' win over the Seminoles gave them a win over a Power 4 school for the second consecutive year. It was also Charleston's first victory over an ACC school since CofC defeated Clemson in 2009.
The Cougars are currently ranked 14th in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major top-25 rankings.
CofC returns two starters from last years WNIT Super 16 squad, including the reigning CAA Player of the Year in Taryn Barbot.
Charleston returns six key contributors from last year's team, while adding seven newcomers, including three key transfers in Tyja Beans (Western Carolina), Grace Ezebilo (Tyler Junior College) and Chynell Mitchell (UTRGV).
The 2024-25 Charleston women's basketball team set a record for the most wins in the program's Division I era with 25. Charleston also earned a first Power 4 win last season, with a 68-62 victory over Northwestern at the Hawk Classic in December.

AMONG THE NCAA — The Cougars currently have two players who are in the top-10 in the nation in their respective categories. Taylor Barbot is one of only 17 players in the country to record a triple-double and is also 7th in the nation in assists per game (7.5). Grace Ezebilo is 4th in the nation rebounds per game (11.9).
As a team, Charleston is 7th in the country in offensive rebounds per game (17.5).

LAST TIME OUT — The College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-3) wrapped up its non-conference slate with a dominant 114-40 win over UPR Mayaguez (0-6) at the Puerto Rico Clasico Saturday Afternoon.
The January 25th home game against NC A&T will serve as the main celebratory night and commemorate the 50 years of the program's existence. The 1974-75 Charleston women's basketball team, which was the first-ever varsity squad, will be honored at the game.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE — Hofstra finished non-conference play 2-9 with wins against Yale and Marywood.
The Pride are led by senior guard Chloe Sterling who made the Preseason All-CAA Second Team and is averaging 11.2 points per game. Graduate forward Sandra Magolico and senior guard Alarice Gooden have respective scoring averages of 9.8 and 9.0.
Hofstra was picked 9th in the CAA Preseason Poll.

Additionally, Taryn Barbot was picked as the CAA Preseason Player of Year in addition to being named to the Preseason All-CAA First Team. She was also one of just 25 athletes named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list. Taylor Barbot earned a Preseason All-CAA Second Team nod.
THE HARMONY FILE — The 2025-26 campaign is Robin Harmony's seventh as the head coach at College of Charleston. Harmony was named the program's eighth head coach on April 19, 2019 and has earned 103 wins at CofC, including back-to-back 20 win seasons at the helm.
In her most recent season, Harmony led the Cougars to their winningest season in D1 program history with 25 wins. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the CAA conference tournament and the Super 16 in the WNIT after earning their first postseason victory ever on their home court.

- Aubrey Stevenson scored her first career points, but UPR Mayaguez won the second quarter as the game headed to the half with Charleston holding a 46-25 edge.
- Charleston scored the second half's first 14 points as the Cougars won the quarter 33-6 and held a 79-31 advantage after the third quarter.
- The Cougars held the Janes to single digits in the fourth quarter as they scored 35 points in the final stanza en route to a 114-40 win.

- Moving forward, a valid ID is required to be scanned/swiped for each transaction.
- Vertical IDs will not be accepted at sales locations regardless of the individual's age.
- All ID checks will be handled directly by our Aramark concession partners at each stand. EPI staff will no longer check ID's or provide wristbands.
- No more than two (2) alcoholic beverages may be sold or served per transaction.
WHAT TO EXPECT — Fans will enter TD Arena at the Meeting Street entrance.
- Once inside, fans will be asked to take their belongings out of their pockets and place them in a bin. This includes phone, wallet, keys, etc.
- If you bring a bag compliant with the Clear Bag policy, your items can be placed in the bag.
- EPI security staff will provide guidance on when to walk through the magnetometer and assist in retrieving your belongings after you clear through the magnetometer.
