CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball lost to Winthrop, 9-3, Wednesday evening at Patriots Point.

The Cougars slip to 12-7 overall while the Eagles improve to 12-10 on the season.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WINTHROP:
- Winthrop plated a run in the first and second innings before Charleston put a three-spot in the home half of the third.
- After redshirt junior Ethan Plyler plated a run on an infield single, graduate Will Baumhofer connected on the first pitch for a two-run single of his own.
- The Eagles broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning before tacking on two more runs in the sixth.Â
- Redshirt freshman Kevin Samonsky made his second midweek start, striking out six batters across 3.2 innings in the no-decision.
- Senior Garrick Murray fanned a pair of batters in two scoreless frames while redshirt sophomore Kevin Steelman and freshman Hunter Phipps did not allow a run in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

OF NOTE:
- Charleston is now 9-5 against Winthrop in the all-time series.
- Four Cougars had multiple hits on Tuesday, including Baumhofer's two-hit, two-RBI performance.
- CofC struck out double-digit batters for the fourth time this season.
- Steelman has not allowed a run in all three outings.
