MT PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball lost to Elon, 14-13, Saturday afternoon in a slugfest where each team hit three home runs.

The Cougars trailed 8-0 after two innings and stormed back, tying the game at 13 in the bottom of the eighth. The Phoenix plated a run in the top of the ninth to earn the win.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST ELON:
- Elon came out of the gates swinging, scoring six runs in the top of the first and another two in the second for an 8-0 lead.
- The Cougars put a five-spot on the scoreboard in the home half of the second, highlighted by Pendergrass' three-run shot over the right field wall.
- Charleston later scored seven straight runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to level the game at 13.
- Penfield went 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, home run and four RBI.
- Graduate Will Baumhofer, Frehner and sophomore Brent Gibbs each picked up a pair of hits in the setback.

OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 45-33 all-time and 21-17 against Elon.Â
- Frehner hit a home run in back-to-back games.
- The Cougars offense has double-digit hits in seven of the last eight games and the last six consecutive contests.
- Senior Garrick Murray tossed 2.1 scoreless frames in relief Saturday. Murray has allowed just one base runner in his last two outings, totaling 4.1 innings.
