Pitching and Fourth Inning Explosion Carry Cougars Past Tigers

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston won its sixth straight CAA home game with a 6-3 victory over Towson on Friday at Patriots Point. The Cougars improved to 10-6 in the conference and have won nine of their 10 league home games on the season.

Game Summary
  • The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first on singles by Austy Miller and Kennedy Rhue and a throwing error after a flyout by Leela Langston.
  • Charleston opened up a six-run cushion in the fourth with one scoring on a wild pitch and another when Karlee Hughes came home on a double steal.
  • Hughes stole three bases in the game, the third time she has done that this season, and is 13-for-13 on the year.
  • Jay Wrightsman followed with a shot over the fence in left center for a two-run homer, and Miller walked, stole second and scored on an error to cap the uprising.
  • Kendall Thackston pitched four shutout innings before surrendering a two-run homer in the fifth following an hour lightning delay.
  • The two runs ended a streak of 35 consecutive scoreless innings in CAA home games by the Charleston pitching staff.
  • Thackston worked the first five innings to even her record at 3-3, and Izzy Alley struck out two in her two frames in the circle.
