Cougs Fall to UNCW in CAA Semifinal Game

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – No. 4 College of Charleston baseball lost 6-5 Saturday afternoon to No. 2 UNCW in the 2025 CAA Semifinal game.
 
The Cougars finish their season with a 37-22 overall record, the fourth consecutive season with at least 36 victories.
 
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST UNCW:
  • Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Charleston sparked a five-run frame.
  • Senior Ben Venables leveled the game at one following a UNCW fielding error while the next two runs came on fielder's choices.
  • CofC's fourth run of the inning came on a back, plating redshirt junior Ethan Plyler.
  • Senior Dylan Johnson capped off the frame with an RBI single to center.
  • Senior Tyler Sorrentino led off the inning with a single, his 19th straight game with a hit.
  • Freshman Drew Medley struck out six batters across 5.1 frames.
  • Senior Dariyan Pendergrass swiped his 43rd base of the season.
  • UNCW cut into Charleston's lead with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh before plating a pair in the ninth.
 
OF NOTE:
  • Charleston's 12 wins in the month of May are the most under the Chad Holbrook era.
  • CofC's 118 stolen bases this season are the most since 2019, which is also tied for the sixth-most in program history.
  • Sorrentino's 19-game hitting streak is tied with Joey Bergman (2009) and Blake Butler (2015) for the fifth-longest in school history.
  • The 131 doubles and 16 triples hit are both tied for the eighth-most in a season.
  • Junior Jake Brink set a career-high with 93.0 innings of work on the mound in 2025.
