Charleston Takes Road Series Against W&M

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Hayden Thomas tossed a career-high 6.1 innings as College of Charleston baseball earned the series victory, defeating William & Mary 12-3 Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
 
CofC improves to 27-19 overall and 10-11 in the CAA. W&M fall to 20-27 and 13-8 in conference action.
 
Thomas yielded one run in the outing on five hits while striking out a pair in his first victory of the year. Senior Dylan Johnson launched his second home run in as many days, scoring a game best three runs as the Cougars tallied 15 hits in the ballgame.
 
 
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY:
  • CofC came out of the gates swinging, scoring three runs in the first.
  • Johnson crushed the first pitch he saw, sending it 424 feet over the left field scoreboard.
  • The Cougars put their first of four-run frames on the board in the third, highlighted by senior Ben Venables two-run single.
  • Leading 8-2 in the top of the ninth, Charleston added to its scoring margin, with four of the five knocks in the frame going for doubles.
  • Senior Dariyan Pendergrass made it an 11-2 contest with an RBI double before swiping his 31st bag of the campaign.
  • Redshirt junior Ethan Plyler doubled him home to make it an even dozen.
  • Four CofC players recorded multi-RBI games in the win, with Pendergrass, Plyler and Johnson each bringing home two while Venables tallied his first three RBI performance as a Cougar.
 
OF NOTE:
  • Charleston is now 31-13 all-time against William & Mary and10-8 as the visitor.
  • CofC recorded a season-high six doubles Sunday.
  • Pendergrass tied Scott Moulder (1996) for the sixth-most stolen bases in a single season in school history.
  • Senior Tyler Sorrentino extended his hitting streak to six games and is batting .355 (11-for-31) with 10 runs scored in 11 conference contests.

Charleston returns home to face The Citadel in the final game of three midweek matchups on Tuesday, May 6. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Patriots Point.
