ATLANTA, Ga. – College of Charleston pitcher
Jake Brink was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft Monday.
Â
Charleston has had a player selected in each of the last three drafts, joining reliever William Privette (2023 - Round 13, Texas Rangers) and third baseman
Cole Mathis (2024 - Round 2, Chicago Cubs). Last year, Mathis became the highest draft pick in program history, going 54th overall.
Â
Brink is the eighth Cougar to be drafted since head coach
Chad Holbrook took over the program in 2018 and 26th player taken in the first 15 rounds.
"The best is yet to come for Jake," said Holbrook. "The Reds are getting a high character, hard working kid that is going to pitch for a long, long time! Congratulations to Jake!"
Â
A 2025 All-CAA Honorable Mention, Brink made 16 appearances and 15 starts on the mound, tossing a career-best 93.0 innings. The righty went 6-6 with a 3.58 ERA and 82 strikeouts, leading the CAA with three complete games and finishing second in innings pitched. Brink became the first CofC pitcher to hurl back-to-back complete games since Bailey Ober in 2016 and first pitcher since 2006 to throw two complete game shutouts in the same season.
"I'm thrilled for both the Cincinnati Reds and
Jake Brink," said associate head coach
Will Dorton. "The Reds are getting a consummate professional, who will hit the ground running in their organization. His career at the College of Charleston is only a snapshot of his potential as a professional pitcher. I couldn't be more proud of Jake, and can't wait to watch him excel at the next level."
Â
As a sophomore in 2024, Brink helped lead Charleston to a 41-14 record, posting an 8-3 record on the bump in 92.2 frames. The All-CAA Second Team selection tallied a 3.69 ERA and 62 punch outs across the campaign.
Â
Brink is the third player in program history drafted by the Reds joining catcher Rob Kral (2010) and second baseman Blake Butler (2015).
