CHARLESTON, S.C. - Before her senior season officially begins this fall, women's golf student-athlete Adrian Anderson will compete in the 2025 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.
It will be the second U.S. Women's Amateur appearance for Anderson, who earned her first qualifying spot following her rookie season as a Cougar.
"I'm very excited for another opportunity to compete against the best amateurs from around the world, and I'm grateful to have another opportunity to play at the highest level," said Anderson. "I know what to expect now, so I'm ready to go out there and play golf."
The Murrells Inlet native earned a spot on a tiebreaker playoff finish at the Deerwood Country Club qualifying tournament in Jacksonville, Fla, a moment she said she was more than prepared for.
"Coming down the stretch, I made a 25-foot putt to save par on 17 and birdied 18 to get myself into a playoff for the second qualifying spot. Going against one other girl in the playoff was very nerve-racking, but I remained calm because I had been in that position before and knew what it took to get the job done. I ended up sinking a five-footer to win the playoff hole and secure my spot. In these moments, I had so much adrenaline flowing, but I trusted all the preparation I had put in to get me to that point."
When she is not busy qualifying for some of the world's most elite amateur tournaments, Anderson has been interning this summer at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
"I have been working in an audiology research lab where we study the cochlea and its possible connections to behavioral disorders, such as autism. I have gained so much experience working with collaborators to run experiments and draw conclusions from our data. I hope to use this experience to continue my education at a medical school and conduct my own research."
After helping the Cougars to the 2025 CAA Championship and a spot in the NCAA Charlottesville Regional, Anderson says she enjoys the challenge of balancing golf and her internship.
"It feels like the season never ended, since I've been working in the lab most days and then going straight to practice. I have stayed very busy, but I enjoy having a full schedule and capitalizing on my free time."
A three-time All-CAA honoree, Anderson's goal for her senior year is simple – another CAA title.
"Entering my last season as a Cougar, I hope to help lead my team to another conference title and ultimately a spot at nationals. More importantly, I hope to be a good leader for the girls on my team and create an environment where we continuously lift each other up."
