
Five Cougars Earn Preseason All-CAA Awards

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women's soccer student-athletes Faith Slimmer and Emma Wennar have been named the 2025 Preseason All-CAA Team. Ainsley Chunn, Bubbles Dever, and Avery Nassetta also earned honors on the Honorable Mentions list.
Slimmer, entering her fifth season with the program, ended the 2024 season on the CAA First Team after leading the Cougars in scoring with nine goals in the regular season. Slimmer saw action in 19 games, starting 18, tallying 1,216 minutes on the field. In the 2024 season Slimmer led the conference in assists with eight. Slimmer's efforts earned her a spot on the Top-Drawer Soccer Top 100 Players list during the 2024 season.
Wennar, trailing only Slimmer, finished the 2024 season with six goals and seven assists for Charleston. The senior played in 20 games and started in 19, tallying 1,209 minutes. Of Wennar's six goals, three were game-winning goals. Wennar contributed to the Cougar's defeat of Elon at home with one goal.
Back for her sophomore season, Chunn appeared in six games in the 2024 season, starting in one. She tallied 267 minutes in the goal, marking eight saves. Chunn saved a season best of five goals against UNCW at home.
Dever saw action in 20 games and started in 19 during the 2024 season with the Cougars. Logging 1,093 minutes, the senior tallied four goals and four assists. Dever took 20 shots on goal. Dever had two assists coming against South Carolina State and Charleston Southern. She saw a season high of seven shots against Presbyterian.
Lastly, Nassetta played in 20 games, starting in 19 for the Cougars in 2024. The senior logged 1,511 minutes in 2024, doubling her playing time from the 2023 season. Nassetta had 2 goals on the year, scoring at home against UNCW and on the road at Campbell. Nassetta also had one assist and six shots on goal for CofC.
The Cougars go into the 2025 season picked second behind Elon in the South Division in the CAA Soccer Preseason Poll, voted on by the league's coaches. Charleston received one vote for first place in the South Division. The Cougars were one of five teams in the CAA to have players on the Preseason All-CAA Team and had the most mentions of any team with five overall selections.
Charleston is set to start its season Thursday, August 14th against South Carolina at home. Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
