
Women's Soccer Delivers First Home Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team was victorious over North Florida defeating the Ospreys 3-1 at Patriots Point on Sunday afternoon.
The game was finalized at the 72nd minute due to inclement weather.
The Cougars came out hot with a goal in the second minute by Avery Nassetta with an assist by Caroline Fowlkes to make the score 1-0. Nassetta had two shots on the afternoon.
North Florida was quick to equalize the game finding their lone goal in the ninth minute.
Charleston's second goal came from Maggie Heffernan assisted by Bella Antonio to pull away from the Ospreys. Heffernan found her first career goal Aug. 28 against Houston Christian. The sophomore took five shots and three on goal in her 62 minutes of playing time.
CofC took 11 shots in the first half compared to North Florida's two. Charleston found two corners in the first half.
Faith Slimmer made her 16th career goal in the 61st minute to put her in the Charleston Top 10 All-Time for goals scored. The goal was assisted by Emma Wennar.
Slimmer had three shots on the day followed by Wennar with five shots and two on goal in addition to the assist.
The Cougars took eight corners Sunday afternoon compared to North Florida's three. Charleston found 22 shot opportunities compared to the Osprey's three. CofC found 12 shots on goal.
Charleston remains home to host Gardner-Webb Thursday, Sept. 11 with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. The game will honor first responders and military for their sacrifices and service to our country.
