
Charleston Readies for Road Matchup at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team is set for a road contest at Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. on Sunday afternoon.

OPENING TIP — CofC, the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorites, is 12-0 in CAA play and off to the best start in conference play in program history. The team is 20-3 overall and has now reached the 20-win mark for the third consecutive season – the first time the squad has done so in the D1 era.
The Cougars' 75-70 win at Florida State in December gave them a win over a Power 4 school for the second consecutive year. It was also Charleston's first victory over an ACC school since CofC defeated Clemson in 2009.
The Cougars are currently ranked 6th in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major top-25 rankings, which the highest ranking in program history. CofC is ranked No. 100 in the NET and 114 in the Torvik.
CofC returns two starters from last years WNIT Super 16 squad, including the reigning CAA Player of the Year in Taryn Barbot.
Charleston returns six key contributors from last year's team, while adding seven newcomers, including two starting transfers in Tyja Beans (Western Carolina), Grace Ezebilo (Tyler Junior College).
The 2024-25 Charleston women's basketball team set a record for the most wins in the program's Division I era with 25. Charleston also earned its first Power 4 win since 2009 with a 68-62 victory over Northwestern at the Hawk Classic on December 20, 2024.

AMONG THE NCAA — The Cougars currently have two players who are in the top-20 in the nation in their respective categories. Grace Ezebilo is 5th in the country in offensive rebounds per game (4.5), 6th in rebounds per game (12.1), 8th in total rebounds (267) and is also in the top-20 in defensive boards per game (7.6). Taylor Barbot is one of only 22 players in the country to record a triple-double and is also in the top-20 in assists per game (6.2), total assists (137) and assist/turnover ratio (2.40).
As a team, Charleston is 8th in the country in offensive rebounds per game (16.1) and is in the top-20 in turnover margin (6.82) and winning percentage (.864).

LAST TIME OUT — The College of Charleston women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to defeat Northeastern by a final of 69-47 at the Cabot Center on Friday night.
With the win, the Cougars won their 13th straight game and reached the 20-win mark for the third consecutive season.
- Grace Ezebilo scored four early points and led Charleston to an 8-5 advantage at the first quarter media timeout.
- With the Cougars holding a 16-14 lead after the first stanza, Sophia Tougas opened the second quarter with a triple before Taylor Barbot converted a layup to put CofC in front 21-14.
- The Huskies knotted the game 23-23 with 90 seconds left in the half, but Jami Hill drilled a deep three at the buzzer as Charleston took a 26-23 edge into the locker room.
- Northeastern scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a 30-26 lead with 7:42 left in the period.
- The Barbot twins and Sophia Tougas then combined for 10 straight points to force a Huskies timeout with 6:43 left in the third.
- The Cougars then extended their run to 23-2 as CofC took a 49-32 advantage into the final frame.
- Charleston outscored Northeastern 20-15 in the final 10 minutes as the Cougars went on to defeat Northeastern 69-47 on Friday night.
50TH ANNIVERSARY — The College of Charleston women's basketball team will celebrate the varsity program's 50th anniversary throughout the 2025-26 season.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS — Monmouth is 8-4 in conference play and 15-8 overall. The Hawks are 8-3 at home and are coming off a 68-60 home loss to Stony Brook on Friday night.
The Hawks are led by junior guard Gigi Gamble who's averaging 14.3 points per game. She has been named the CAA Player of the Week two times this year. The other double-digit scorer for Monmouth is junior forward Divine Dibula who's averaging 13.1 points per contest
Monmouth was picked 8th in the CAA Preseason Poll and is currently 4th in the CAA.
MATCHUP HISTORY VS. MONMOUTH — Charleston is 1-4 all-time against Monmouth and 0-1 on the road.
PRESEASON FAVS — Charleston was picked as the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorites, receiving eight of the 13 first place votes.

AWARDS — Taryn Barbot has earned four CAA Player of the Week awards this season. Most recently, she won the award on February 2 after posting 25 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals in the Cougars' win at Elon. She also won the award on January 5 after averaging 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in the opening weekend of conference play. Additionally, She was named the CAA Player of the Week on December 1 after a strong week at the Big Easy Classic in New Orleans, and once more on November 17 after posting her eighth career 30-point game in the 75-44 win over Iona.
Grace Ezebilo was named the CAA Player of the Week on February 9 after averaging 11.5 points and an incredible 21.5 rebounds per game as she helped CofC win two games and improve to 11-0 in CAA play.
Taylor Barbot garnered Coastal Athletic Association Player of the Week honors on December 15 after leading all players in points (20) and assists (8) in the Cougars 75-70 win at Florida State.
Additionally, Taryn Barbot was picked as the CAA Preseason Player of Year and was named to the Preseason All-CAA First Team. She was also one of just 25 athletes named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list. Taylor Barbot earned a Preseason All-CAA Second Team nod.
THE HARMONY FILE — The 2025-26 campaign is Robin Harmony's seventh as the head coach at College of Charleston. Harmony was named the program's eighth head coach on April 19, 2019 and has earned 115 wins at CofC, including three straight 20 win seasons at the helm.
In her most recent season, Harmony led the Cougars to their winningest season in D1 program history with 25 wins. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the CAA conference tournament and the Super 16 in the WNIT after earning their first postseason victory ever on their home court.
In her 18+ years as a head coach, Harmony has:
- 11 20-win seasons
- Led Charleston to back-to-back WNIT appearances
- Three Southland Conference regular season titles (Lamar)
- Led Lamar to three WNIT appearances
- Member of University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame
- Named an ACC Women's Basketball Legend in 2013
BARBOT'S WORLD — Taryn Barbot, the 2025-26 CAA Preseason Player of the Year is averaging 19.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals per contest this season.
Barbot was just one of 25 athletes named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List, which recognizes the best mid-major player in the country. Additionally, she's earned three CAA Player of the Week awards this season.
After earning the program's first CAA Rookie of the Year in 2023-24, Barbot came back and won the program's first CAA Player of the Year after the 2024-25 season. The Floral Park, N.Y. native amassed the 1,000 point mark on March 24, 2025 and became the first sophomore in program history and the fastest Charleston basketball player to do so (64 games). She's now scored 1,490 points as a Cougar and is 10th on the Charleston's all-time scoring list. She's also just the seventh Cougar in program history to score over 1,000 points and grab over 500 rebounds.
