Cougars Finish Day One of Stetson Spring Fling

DELAND, Fla. - The College of Charleston beach volleyball dropped two matches on the opening day of the Stetson Spring Fling.
Charleston started the morning with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Sun Belt foe Mercer. The 3s pair of Alivia Newberg and Ella Duffner continued their winning ways after 2-0 outing vs. UNCW last week with a 21-14, 21-13 sweep. The 4s pair of Fiona North and Grace Toscano earned their first victory of the year with a hard fought three set win 20-22, 21-15, 15-6. The 1s pair of Cassie Thayse and Elizabeth Curry pushed their dual to three sets, but could not earn the victory.
Sophie Sageer made her season debut playing with Madison Loving at the 2s.
The Stetson Hatters swept the Cougars 5-0 in the second match of the day.
Charleston will return for day two tomorrow, facing Jacksonville at 10:15 a.m. followed by Eckerd at 245 p.m.
