CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (13-6, 5-2 CAA) earned two victories on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars first grinded out a 4-2 victory over Stetson (13-5) before sweeping Randolph-Macon (6-4) at the Turner Tennis Center on Wednesday.
"We had a great team victory against the two-time defending ASUN champions," Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "Sia showed a lot of character to win in three set thriller to clinch the match. Our doubles has been an issue recently, but we are showing great fight to come back strong in singles. Overall, we displayed great effort all day today."
STETSON
The Hatters won the doubles point as they won the top two courts. Isabella De Luise and Saige Severance were leading 5-4 on court three when Stetson clinched the point.
All six singles courts proved to be a battle with every single court going to an all-deciding third set. Marra Bruce swept her final set 6-0 to tie the match 1-all before Francesca Salvato delivered a 6-3 win in slot No. 3 to put the Cougars in front 2-1.
Riley Trinkle then cruised to a 6-1 third set win on court six to give CofC its third point, but Stetson continued to fight as the Hatters earned their second point of the day on court four.
Finding herself in a third set tiebreak in the No. 1 spot, Sia Cariov dug deep and gutted out an 11-9 win in the tiebreak to win the top court and clinch the match for the Cougars.
Charleston won the match 4-2 as court two remained unfinished.
RANDOLPH-MACON
Charleston easily won the doubles point as Marra Bruce and Harper Santos collected a 6-1 victory on court three, while Olivia Bull and Riley Trinkle paired up to win court one 6-1 and Isabella De Luise and Francesca Salvato won 6-3 in slot No. 2.
The Cougars had an impressive showing in singles as CofC didn't drop a set and lost just four of the 76 games played en route to a quick 7-0 sweep over Randolph-Macon.
Sia Cariov, Saige Severance, Riley Trinkle, Isabella De Luise, Olivia Bull and Harper Santos all earned sweeps on their respective courts, while Trinkle, Bull and Santos didn't drop a single game against their opponents.
