With the win the Cougars improved to 4-9-1, while the Phoenix fell to 6-9.
Files scored the game's only goal when he found the back of the net with 32:53 left in the match off an assist from Ricardo Diaz Granados for a 1-0 advantage.
In the opener, Coastal Carolina defeated The Citadel, 4-1, behind an own goal by Citadel and scores from Tobin Whitmarsh, Mike Littlefield and Joseph Ngwenya.
With the win the Chanticleers improved to 6-6-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-13.
Coastal took a 1-0 lead at the 29:06 mark on a Citadel own goal. Ngwenya served the box where the Bulldogs' Robert Burnham deflected the pass into the left corner of the Citadel goal for the early Chanticleer advantage.
Coastal stretched the margin to 2-0 with 17:10 remaining on a penalty kick goal by Whitmarsh. The Bulldogs cut the margin to 2-1 with 11:29 left on a goal by Cody Bragg.
Littlefield scored with 10:12 left, and Ngwenya tallied with 8:12 remaining for the final margin.
The final day of the Classic is set for Saturday with College of Charleston taking on Coastal Carolina at 2:00, followed by Elon and The Citadel.
