Charleston's Montae Seabrook gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead after he scored his first goal of the season at the 2:50 mark of the first half. Turner Walters and Jeff Files were credited with assists on the play.
With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, VMI tied the score at 1-1 when Austin Williams' shot sailed into the net. Jonathan Rios was in on the assist.
Ricardo Diaz Granados scored at the 49:56 mark of the game to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. It was Granados' fifth goal of the season. Ben Hollingsworth picked up his third assist of the year on the play.
VMI again tied the score at 2-2, when Austin Williams scored unassisted at the 72:31 mark of the game.
Tyler Beckstead scored the game-winning goal for the Cougars. His shot at 77:01 assisted by Matt Schindelholz gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead which would turn out to be the final score.
For the game, Charleston outshot VMI 8-7. VMI led in corner kicks 8-7.
The Cougars record improves to 8-5-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Southern Conference. The Keydets record now stands at 2-7-4 overall and 2-3-0 in the Southern Conference.
The Cougars are in action again next Tuesday, October 29, 6:00 pm when they travel across town to play The Citadel in Southern Conference soccer action.
