With the win the Cougars improved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play. The Eagles fell to 2-9-0 and 1-2-0.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes in which both teams had five shots, each team had scoring opportunities but neither could finish until the game's final moments.
Beckstead blasted home the game-winner after a shot from Tony Myers deflected off GSU goalie Garret Lazenby. Beckstead's second goal of the season found the back right corner of the net.
For the game, the Cougars held an 11-7 advantage in shots and 4-0 in corner kicks.
Georgia Southern plays host to Furman at 1:00 on Saturday. The Cougars are in action again on Saturday, October 19th when they play at Furman at 5:00.
