The first half was played on a wet and slippery field due to the rainy weekend weather. The score was 0-0 at halftime after neither team could put together a first half goal.
It looked like like the second half would be much like the first, but UNH took a 1-0 lead with seven minutes to go in the contest after Nicola Chicco scored an unassisted goal at the 83:32 mark of the second half.
The Cougars refused to back down, as Ricardo Diaz Granados scored four minutes later on a corner kick to tie the score at 1-1 with less then three minutes remaining in the game. Mark Gaskins was credited with the assist.
With the score tied 1-1 and time running out in regulation, Sage Martina scored the game winning goal with 45 seconds left on an assist from Jeff Files giving the Cougars an amazing 2-1 win.
For the game, the Cougars outshot UNH 19-7. Cougar Goalie Keith Wiggins had three saves on the day.
The College of Charleston men's soccer team resumes action on Wednesday, September 18th, as they host Davidson at Patriots Point Field at 7:00 pm in a Southern Conference matchup.
