The Cougars improve to 6-3-2 overall and 2-2 in the SoCon, while the Mountaineers drop to 3-7-1 and 1-2.
Despite being out-shot 10-3 in the first half Appalachian State held Charleston without a goal to send the game into halftime 0-0.
The game still remained scoreless until Troy Lesesne's shot attempt deflected off the Appalachian State goalkeeper into the waiting feet of Cougar Scott Milroth, who sent the ball past the goal line at the 49:56 mark for the lone score of the night.
The Cougars edged the Mountaineers 17-12 in shots and dominated in corner kicks 12-5. The Mountaineers led in saves with the 7-6 advantage. Ricardos Diaz Granados led the Cougars with six shots on the night, including four on goal. Mountaineer Brian Fowler led the Appalachian State effort with four shots on the night.
The Cougars host Furman Oct. 14th at 6:00 PM while the Mountaineers host UNC Greensboro the same day at 7:00 PM in Boone, NC.
