The Cougars go to 5-3-2 on the year while the Tribe mark goes to 4-3-2.
The Cougars netted the first two goals of the game to take the early 2-0 lead. Ben Hollingsworth scored first at the 12:06 mark, while Jeff Files netted the second at 29:42. Scott Milroth assisted both goals. The Cougars went into halftime leading 2-0, despite being out-shot, 9-6, by the Tribe.
With just 20 minutes to play in regulation, the Tribe began their comeback as Patrick Scherder cut the Cougar lead by one with a goal at the 70:16 mark off the Phil Hucles' assists. Just four minutes later (74:11) Graham Albert scored William & Mary's second goal to tie the game and send it into overtime.
The first overtime period ended with the score still tied at two apiece as the Cougars had the only shot of the period. The Tribe had two attempts in the second overtime period but could not get one past the line as the game ended with the score still knotted at 2-2.
The Tribe led the Cougars in shots with the 19-13 edge, while the Cougars held the advantage in saves, 5-2. Files led the Cougar effort with six shots, while Hucles and Bryan Hinkle led the Tribe with four shots each. Fouls were even at 13 apiece with ten cards handed out during the game.
The Cougars travel to Georgia Southern Oct. 8th for a 4:00 PM contest, while the Tribe hosts Virginia Commonwealth Oct. 19th, also at 4:00 PM.
