The Cougars go to 10-3-3 on the year and the Gamecocks go to 8-6-2 overall. This marks the second year in a row the Cougars have not lost to the Gamecocks. Last year's squad defeated South Carolina 1-0 at Patriots Point.
After a scoreless first half that saw Charleston edge South Carolina in shots 7-6, the Gamecocks went on the board first in the second half with the goal by Makan Hislop at 51:54. The Cougars answered at the 68:34 mark when Ricardo Diaz Granados took Scott Milroth's corner kick and headed it into the back of the net. Charleston went up 2-1 with the goal by Keion Yearwood at 70:58 (assist by Sage Martina), but would not hold the lead for long as USC's Vaughn took the ball in at 86:22 for the tie.
South Carolina took five shots in overtime, compared to four for Charleston but neither team capitalized to increase the score as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Shots and saves were even for the game at 20 and four, respectively. Granados led Charleston with seven shots, while Jack Cummings of USC had six to lead his team.
The Cougars host VMI Saturday, Nov. 8th, in a 2:00 PM contest. It will mark the last regular season game before Charleston hosts the Southern Conference tournament Nov. 13-16.
