#articleRelated { display: none !important; } Carrie Geden tied her career-high with 12 points and had a career-high 11 rebounds but it would not be enough as Morehead State held off a couple Cougar rallies to take the 73-56 victory in women's basketball action tonight in front of 259 fans at the John Kresse Arena.

The Cougars fall to 1-5, while the Lady Eagles pick up their second win of the season to go to 2-3.

Charleston shot 31.3 percent from the field in the first half but was scoreless from beyond the three-point arc (0-5). Morehead State shot 33.3 percent from the field, going three-for-eight in three-pointers, for the difference in the half. The first half saw 24 fouls given with the Lady Eagles going 14-16 from the line and the Cougars nailing 10-of-13 to make the halftime score 39-30, in favor of Morehead State.

After ending the first half with a 6-0 run that saw a three-point Cougar deficit increase to nine, Morehead State continued and went on an 8-0 run the first six-and-a-half minutes to take the 17 point, 47-30 lead with just under 14 minutes to play. A layup by Geden at 13:33 finally put the Cougars on the board. Charleston scored the next eight points in a row to bring the deficit back down to nine with 11:39 remaining in the contest. The Cougars had a chance to cut the lead to seven but the Tiffany Green layup just bounced out of the rim. Morehead State nailed a jumper and three-pointer to take the lead back up to 14 with 9:43 left in the game.

After letting the gap grow to 15 late in the second half the Cougars went on an 8-2 run to cut it back to nine with 2:46 left before some clutch free throws and field goals sealed the 73-56 win for the Lady Eagles.

Morehead State shot 40.0 percent from the field for the game and held the College of Charleston to 31.3. For the fifth time in six games the Cougars out-shot their opponents, holding the 66 to 55 field goal attempt advantage. The Cougars remained scoreless in three-pointers (0-12), while the Lady Eagles only converted one more in the second half (4-11). Morehead State shot 25-for-30 from the line for 83.3 percent, while the Cougars went 16-for-23 for 69.6 percent. Charleston is two-for-28 from behind the three-point line in the last two games and has not scored one since 13:46 left in the second half of the Chattanooga game.

DeVonda Williams and Kandi Brown led the Lady Eagles with 18 points each, with Megen Gearhart following with 11. Williams pulled down 10 rebounds to give her a double-double on the night.

Following Geden's 12 points, Melissa Chambers and Rachel King had eight points to help lead the Cougars. Geden's 11 rebounds gave her a double-double, the first of her career.

Charleston plays its final home game before Christmas break Saturday, Dec. 22, when it hosts Davidson in a 2:00 PM match-up. The Lady Eagles drive just up the road to Charleston Southern for a 7:00 PM match Dec. 18th.
