The Cougars improve to 1-1 on the year while Temple, after its 5-0 loss to NC State at Patriots Point last night, falls to 0-2.
Charleston out-shot Temple 12-0 in the first half but could not get one past the net. The Owls broke the 0-0 deadlock eight minutes into the second half with a goal by Katie Louth at the 53:27 mark (Trish Dalton assisted). Charleston responded immediately as Sydney Strong sent a penalty kick into the back of the net at 54:14. Strong scored two minutes later (56:28) off the assist by Kristin Rhyne to break the 1-1 tie.
Freshman Caroline Wertis nailed her first career goal at 69:10 off the cross from Annie Clauss to pad the Cougar lead. Sophomore Brennana McCord picked up her second career goal and first of the year off an assist from Crystal Petroccoro at 83:48.
The Cougars led the offensive effort with a 25-4 advantage in shots. They also went 12-0 in corner kicks. Kristin Rhyne and Meghan Shoup led with five shots each, while Claire Wigfall followed with three.
The College of Charleston returns to action Sept. 3rd, as it host SC State at Patriots Point. Temple host Lehigh the same day at 4:00 PM at Temple Stadium.
