The Cougars fall in their first Southern Conference game of the season to go to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon. The Terriers improve to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Charleston controlled the first half with the 7-3 edge in shots but could not get one past the goalkeeper, who had five save in the first 45 minutes of play. Wofford came back with four shots in the second half to Charleston's six but still no team could cross the line in regulation.
With 5:32 left in the first overtime Wofford's Eve Van Harpen's shot just sailed over the Charleston goalkeeper's head into the net for the winning goal. Kelsey Roth had the assist on the goal.
Wofford led the Cougars in saves with the 9-3 advantage, but Charleston led 14-9 in shots. Kristin Rhyne led Charleston with four shots, while Mallory Bramlett, Christine Pezzutti and Jessica Connett led the Terriers with two shots apiece.
The Cougars take to the road this weekend as they play at East Tennessee State Sept. 19th at 7:00 PM, and at Appalachian State Sept. 21st at 1:00 PM. Wofford travels to Mercer Sept. 18th for a 7:00 PM contest.
