Charleston dominated for much of the first period, outshooting the 'Cats 8-3. Cougar sophomore Carolyn Morris took a nifty pass from senior Jamie Stewart and put the ball in the net to give her team the early lead at the 11:43 mark. Charleston continued to attack and pushed their lead to two when sophomore Megan Broderick scored on a header just before halftime.
As much as the first half belonged to the Cougars, the second belonged to Davidson. The Wildcats spent much of the final 45 minutes in their offensive third, attempting nine shots to Charleston's four and winning three corner kicks. Despite the increased offensive intensity, Charleston goalie Alice Keeney proved up to the task, collecting all four of her saves in the second period to preserve the shutout.
The Wildcats fall to 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in SoCon play. The Cougars improve to 5-4 and 2-2 in the SoCon.
Davidson continues Southern Conference play on the road next week. The Wildcats travel to Chattanooga for a match beginning at 5 p.m. on Oct. 5.
