Appalachian State drops to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Conference. The College of Charleston improves to 7-4-3 and 4-2-2. By not giving up a goal, the Cougars tied a school record with eight shutouts in a season.
Cougar Amanda Andrews scored her first career goal at the 2:03 mark after taking the pass from Kristin Rhyne just outside the left side of the box past the goalkeeper to out Charleston up 1-0.
Despite out-shooting the Mountaineers 13-3, the Cougars would not score again until 88:19, when a blocked shot by Sydney Strong deflected off the ASU defender just beyond the goal line right to Teryn Shuetz who hit it in the back of the net for the score.
Appalachian State held the 5-2 advantage in saves, with both teams coming away with four corner kicks apiece.
Jill Parsons, of Appalachian State, led the team with two shots, while Kristin Rhyne had four to lead the Cougars.
The College of Charleston travels to Georgia Southern for a Sunday match Oct. 20th at 3:30 PM. Appalachian State hosts Longwood the same day at 7:00 PM.
