Charleston Southern drops to 6-8-1 overall while the Cougars improve to 9-4-3 on the year. The win gives the Cougars their ninth shutout, which breaks a school record. It is also Emily Brenner's ninth, which is also a College of Charleston best.
Both teams had plenty of chances to put points on the board, despite the stats showing 12 shots for College of Charleston, and only six for CSU, but only the Cougars were able to capitalize on one of them.
In the 23rd minute of the contest, the Cougar's Kristin Rhyne drove a corner kick into the far post where it ricocheted to Strong who was able to put it in the back of the net. That goal would prove to be enough as the Cougars were able to shut-out the Lady Bucs for the rest of the match.
Both teams played very aggressively, with CSU picking up 19 fouls, and the Cougars adding 11 of their own. There were also four yellow cards given out, two to each team.
CSU will take the field again when it travels to Lexington, Va. this weekend to take on VMI. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Cougars travel to Wofford Oct. 24th for a 2:00 PM nod.
