College of Charleston has now won six straight games with the last three each coming by a 3-0 margin. The win lifted the Cougars to 11-4-0 overall and 5-0-0 in league play. Elon dropped to 4-8-4, 1-3-1.
The Cougars tallied the first goal of the game at 5:53 when Troy Lesesne crossed a free kick into the box to Matt Schindelholz who knocked home the score, his fourth of the year, for the only goal of the first half.
College of Charleston's Darren Toby scored the second goal of the day in thee 60th minute, taking a Schindelholz pass and banked the shot in off the far post. The goal was Toby's third of the year. Lesesne added the final tally nearly three minutes later when he broke through the Phoenix defense and scored his fourth goal of the year.
Elon held a 13-12 edge in total shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, but was unable to find the back of the net all day as Keith Wiggans made five saves to record the shutout.
Taylor Saxe saw action for the first 77:20 of the contest, making three saves. Will Cash saw his first collegiate action, playing the final 12:40 in front of the net.
The Phoenix heads to Davidson for a SoCon showdown on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. while College of Charleston will host Georgia Southern Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in a league game.
