Cougar Darren Toby gave Charleston the lead early in the second half with a cross from outside the 6-yard box that bounced in off the left post at the 58:03 mark. Jabari Seabrook garnered the assist for the Cougars. Portland answered at 76:18 with the netter off the corner kick by Matthew Dallman to knot the game up. Regulation ended with the score still tied so the Cougar and Pilots played extra minutes. Alejandro Salazar received the ball from Miguel Guante just eight yard outs of the Cougar net and sent it in at 93:48 for the winning goal.
Portland out-shot Charleston 15-9, with both goalkeepers picking up three saves apiece. Tony Myers, George Grygar and Ben Hollingsworth led the team with two shots each, while Christopher Sanders and Salazar both led Portland with three shots each.
The Cougars travel to Richmond Va., for the Richmond Nike Classic Sept 17th-18th. They face Virginia Commonwealth Friday at 5:30 PM and then take on host Richmond Saturday at 8:00 PM.
