The Cougars (5-3, 1-0) and Wildcats (3-4, 0-1) battled strong winds and rain throughout the match. Davidson opened up the scoring in the 36th minute as Matt Allen scored off the rebound of a Mac Wilkie shot.
The Cougars rallied in the second half, scoring all of their goals after the intermission. Ben Hollingsworth tied the game in the 60th minute scoring on a short shot in the box. Scott Milroth picked up the assist on the Hollingsworth goal.
Jeremy Gold scored the game-winner at 70:53 on a cross from Troy Lesesne. The Euless, Texas native, scored his second goal of the game and season just two minutes later as he beat two defenders down the field for the unassisted goal.
Shots were even for the game as both teams had 14 attempts. Keith Wiggins earned the win in goal for the Cougars as he had six saves. Davidson's Bart Creasman had three saves in the losing effort.
The Cougars will travel to Piscitaway, N.J. next weekend for the Rutgers Soccer Classic. CofC will face Rutgers on Friday at 8:00pm and St. John's on Sunday at 1:30pm.
