Wildcat Katie Hamilton tallied her second career double-double to lead the Davidson women's basketball team to the 62-43 win over the College of Charleston this afternoon in front of 217 fans at the
John Kresse Arena.
The loss is the first for the Cougars at the Kresse Arena this season and fall to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the Southern Conference, while Davidson improves to 10-8 and 7-4 in the league. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Charleston, its longest of the season and took its home record to 4-1 on the year.
The Cougars opened the game with a 4-2 lead with 18:51 left in the first half before the Wildcats embarked on a 10-0 run to go up 14-4 with 14:08 on the clock before a three-pointer by Rachel King stopped the run. Charleston pulled to within three over the next four minutes but could get no further as Davidson pulled away late in the half to go up by the 33-21 halftime lead.
Davidson continued where it left off in the second half and never relinquished its double-digit lead, going up by as much as 23 points before settling on the 19-point 62-43 win.
Charleston was led by Patrice Bryant with her 12 points, while Erika Smith tallied a career-high seven rebounds to pace the team. Hamilton led Davidson with her 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Emily Callahan and Janell Crayton connected on 13 points each.
Davidson shot 42.6 from the field and held Charleston to 30.2 percent. The Cougars took the turnover advantage at 17-19 but lost on the boards 33-41. Davidson connected on six three-pointers and held Charleston to just two.
Charleston travels to Georgia Southern for a 5:00 PM match-up Mon. Jan. 24th, while Davidson returns home Jan. 25th to host Western Carolina in a 7:00 PM tip-off.
