The Cougars drop to 5-7-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Southern Conference, while the Catamounts improve to 13-4 and 4-3.
The Catamounts scored just before the end of the first half at 42:55, when Meghan Reilly fed the ball from the right side to Lauren Atkinson, who was located just inside the box about 15 yards out. She passed the ball to Natasha Moore who was about 10 yards out on the right. Moore then blasted the ball over the goalkeeper's head for the score.
Charleston out-shot Western Carolina 16-8, with Catamount Alesha Row picking up six saves, including a dramatic one with 16 seconds left after diving to deflect a bullet by Carolyn Morris that would have tied the game. Erin Smith had three saves on the evening. Moore and Natalie Turgeon led the visitors with two shots each, while Teryn Schuetz paced the Cougars with five shots.
The Cougars host The Citadel Sunday the 23rd in a 1:00 PM match while the Catamounts host Chattanooga the same day but at 2:00 PM.
