#articleRelated { display: none !important; } The College of Charleston held Savannah State to just 17 points in the first half and cruised to the eventual 64-49 win in women's basketball action this evening in front of 347 fans at Tiger Arena in Savannah, Ga.

The win boosts the Cougars to 14-12 overall, while Savannah State drops to 6-17 on the year.

The first half started slow for both teams with the Cougars leading 9-8 with 14:08 left before an 18-0 run by CofC left them with the 27-8 with 6:54 left before intermission. A jumper by Lakisha Green stopped the run. Savannah State would only score seven more points the final six minutes and trailed by the 41-17 score at halftime.

Charleston shot 45 percent in the first half and held the Tigers to just 24.2 percent. The Cougars were able to convert 15 Tiger first half turnovers into 15 points.

The Cougars extended the lead through the second half to 30 before Savannah State was able to cut that lead to the final 15-point 64-49 win.

Charleston shot 33.3 percent for the game, while the Tigers shot 44.0 percent in the second half to end the game with the 32.8 shooting percentage. Savannah State was out-rebounded 50-45 and had 24 turnovers, compared to 14 for the Cougars.

Rachel King led the Cougars with 14 points, going three-for-six from behind the three-point line, while teammate Melissa Chambers followed with 12 points. Erica Irick paced Charleston with eight rebounds.

Tiger Kermetris Hill led the team with her 18 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Shamica James led the team in rebounds with 10.

The Cougars host Chattanooga Feb. 26th at 2:00 in the final game of the regular-season.
