Charleston goes to 2-3-1, while Loyola Chicago goes to 1-2-1 on the year.
The Ramblers scored first with a goal by Bill Metzger at 3:09 before the Cougars tied it up about two minutes later when Casey Gold, from six yards out, sent the ball past the goalkeeper at 4:53. Matt Morris picked up the assist on the play. At 27:45 Tony DeLuca would put the Ramblers back up with his goal, which was assisted by Dino Melitas. The half would end with Loyola Chicago leading 2-1.
Cougar Rondell Honora took away the Rambler lead at 79:34 flicking a header to the back post past the goalkeeper.
Loyola Chicago would have two shots in two overtime periods but could not convert and the game ended with the 2-2 tie.
The Cougars out-shot the Ramblers 19-13 and held the 6-5 edge in saves. Loyola Chicago led in corner kicks, 11-3. Scott Milroth paced the Cougars with six shots, while Metzger led the Ramblers with four.
Charleston plays Pennsylvania Sept. 18th at 1:00 PM, while Loyola Chicago plays USC at 3:30. Both matches will be played at Stone Stadium as part of the tournament.
