UNCG Edges CofC In Double OT, 2-1

Michael FitzGerald's goal with 6:32 left in the second overtime lifted UNC Greensboro to a hard-fought 2-1 win over the College of Charleston in men's Southern Conference soccer action before 521 at Patriots Point Field on Wednesday.
With the win, UNCG improved to 9-5-1 overall and 4-0-1 in league play. The Cougars, who host Elon at 2:00 on Saturday, fell to 8-6-1 and 3-1-0.
FitzGerald staked UNCG to a 1-0 lead at intermission with his first score of the night at the 17:23 mark off an assist from Mike Richardson.
Charleston evened the match at the 1-1 with an unassisted goal by David Levine with just 15:02 left in regulation. Levine made a brilliant run forward from more than 30 yards away from the penalty box and shot the ball through two defenders to net to goal.
FitzGerald's game-winner came on one of the Spartans' three shots in the second overtime period.
Junior goalie Corbin Waller had seven saves for the Cougars, while Nate Berry recorded 11 for the Spartans.
