CofC Finishes Ninth At SoCon Championships

The College of Charleston's Women's Track and Field team finished in ninth place at the Southern Conference Track and Field Championships that were held on the campus of Georgia Southern Friday and Saturday.
Wells Trompeter broke her own school record and earned a seventh place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:31.31. Summer Chambless placed fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20 meters earning five points for Charleston.
Ashley Arnold finished fifth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:50.47. Arnold also had a seventh place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:09.24 earning much needed points for the Cougars in the two events.
Jennifer Dooley finished sixth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:02.80. Dominique Boone placed seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.47 meters.
Kosha Lance also had a seventh place finish as Lance threw a distance of 12.35 meters in the shot put event.
Clare Goodwin finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.31 meters. Goodwin also finished eighth in the shot put with a distance of 7.59 meters and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.63.
Appalachian State won its fifth consecutive SoCon Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship and Western Carolina won its first SoCon Men's title since 1999 on Sunday.
The Mountaineer women outlasted a late Georgia Southern drive to obtain the title, with Appalachian State holding on with a cumulative point total of 197.5 to the Eagles' 182.5. Georgia Southern head women's coach Shaun Meinecke was named Coach of the Year for the Eagles' efforts.
The men's team victory was the second all-time for the Catamount program.
