Freshman Brittany Schneider scored the lone goal of the match in the 89th minute of action off an assist from Teryn Schuetz.
"Our performance today was amazing, because we had to play tough games two days in a row in extremely hot weather," said head coach Kevin Dempsey. "The girls never quit during the entire match and scoring the goal in the 89th minute against a team like Stetson showed our complete team effort."
Charleston registered 12 shots in the match while Stetson (0-2) registered 11.
"This was a great win for us," said senior Teryn Schuetz. "We most likely wouldn't have won this type of game in the past few years, but this year's team has made an effort to always play hard throughout the entire match."
Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Wiggers registered a shutout in her first collegiate start for the Cougars.
"Sarah did an excellent job for us in goal," said associate head coach Tim Santoro. "We have such a young team with many freshmen on our squad and our performances so far this season have been very encouraging for all of us."
The Cougars finished the weekend 2-0 and were the only team not to suffer a loss or a tie in the Florida Atlantic Tournament. Two participants in the tournament, Florida Atlantic University and Virginia Commonwealth University, received invitations to the NCAA Women's College Cup last season.
The Cougars will travel to Conway, S.C to play Coastal Carolina on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. before returning home for a five game homestand beginning on Sep. 4 with a match against Kennesaw State at 4 p.m. at Patriots Point Field in Mt. Pleasant.
