
Cougars Beat Citadel in Cross-Town Battle, 4-1

Four goals by as many Cougars served to lift the College of Charleston women's soccer team over SoCon opponent The Citadel 4-1 at Washington Light Infantry Field in Charleston, S.C.
Charleston improves to 8-5-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the Southern Conference. The Citadel falls to 3-12-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.
Chrissy Caruso scored the game-winning goal when she found the back of the net on a rebound off of Bulldog goalkeeper Emily Green (19:31). The goal is her second of the season.
Ten minutes later, the Cougars would capitalize on another Bulldog mistake when Christian Patton won the ball from a Citadel defender and made a quick shot to the corner of the net and made the score 2-0.
Patton would later assist on the third Charleston goal when she crossed the ball from the right side to connect with Morgan Benz who headed it in for the score (43:10).
Megan Manthey netted her third goal of the season when Christy Barrow sent a pass inside. Manthey found the left corner of the net to make the final goal for the Cougars.
The Citadel's Dianna Martin ended CofC's five game shutout streak when she put the Bulldogs on the board in the 86th minute.
The Cougar defense held the Bulldogs to just four shot in the first half and 11 for the entire match.
CofC travels to Davidson, N.C., Wed., Oct. 17, to face the Davidson Wildcats at 5 p.m.
