The first half saw a evenly-matched defensive battle. Andrews, a defender from
Charleston's best chance at a goal came in the 8th minute when Megan Manthey's shot was tipped over the crossbar by Furman goalie Briana da Mota, resulting in a corner kick for the Cougars.
Despite its 12-10 shot advantage, CofC was unable to find the back of the net. Furman dodged another bullet when junior midfielder Katie Browne headed the ball toward the goal in a flurry of activity; da Mota snagged the ball for the save.
Paladin defender Ashley Creavalle anchored a defense that held the Cougars to just eight attempts on goal. Creavalle also led her squad in shots with three.
