
Charleston Cross Country Competes at SoCon Championship

Becky Stewart and Brad Meyer finished 21st and 15th, respectively, to lead the men's and women's cross country teams to a seventh and ninth place finish at the SoCon cross country championship in Cullowhee, N.C. Chattanooga won the women's championship, with Appalachian State finishing first for the men for the second consecutive year.
The women finished 21st ahead of The Citadel, UNC Greensboro, Georgia Southern, and Wofford. Stewart clocked an 18:48.31 to lead the Cougars, with Amy Laughlin earning a 29th place finish with a 19:12.72. Wells Trompeter finished with a time of 19:14.13 and a 32nd place finish. Karen Corsen and Katie Hedley finished 44th and 45th with times of 19:32.19 and 19:33.50. Rounding out the field for Charleston was Sarah Massenburg (19:54.62), Erin Stoddard (20:12.43), and Cara Browning (20:16.57).
Meyer earned the only top-20 finish for the men's team, leading the team to a ninth place finish. Trevor Sprague clocked the second-best time, 27:14.85, for a 44th place finish. Sophomore J.C. Koziel notched a 27:22.89 for 46th, with Luke Nelson (28:00.71), Tim Faugl (29:27.37), and Josh Shinoff (32:52.25) rounding out the finishes for Charleston.
