Cougars defeat Eagles for 9th shutout, 2-0

Statesboro, Ga. -- Kareem Yearwood and Zach Prince combined to lift the College of Charleston over Georgia Southern, 2-0, in Southern Conference men's soccer action Tuesday night.
The Cougars' record improves to 11-4-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the SoCon. The Eagles fall to 6-10-0, 2-5-0 in the league. The shutout, the team's ninth, moves CofC into a first-place tie in the Southern Conference team shutouts category.
Yearwood scored the game-winning goal midway through the first half. Freshman midfielder Justin Fojo passed a ball up the left side to Yearwood who shot from eight yards out to put the Cougars up 1-0 (24:12). The goal, Yearwood's 11th of the season, keeps him atop the conference goals, points and points-per-game lists.
The score remained the same for much of the remainder of the game until Prince added his third goal of the season. Prince, a sophomore forward, received a pass from midfielder Wes Knight. Prince blasted the ball from 20 yards out for the final goal (86:45).
Goalkeeper Corbin Waller recorded his ninth shutout of the season, he leads the conference in the same category. Waller, a senior from High Point, N.C., was named SoCon Men's Soccer Player of the Week Tuesday.
The Cougars outshot GSU 18-11. Waller made six saves on the evening while Eagles' goalie Joey Ralph made seven.
Charleston plays its final game of the season at Davidson on Sat., Nov. 3, at 2 p.m.
