
College of Charleston Women?s Soccer Team Falls at Samford, 1-0

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. ? The College of Charleston's women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Samford on Friday night in Southern Conference action on the road in Birmingham, Ala.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 9-4-3 on the year, 2-3-2 in the SoCon, while Samford improves to 5-8-2 overall, 4-1-2 in the SoCon with the victory.
In the first half, both Samford and the Cougars fired five shots each at the goal, but were denied each time by goalie's Erin Smith of Charleston and Alyssa Whitehead of Samford. Smith made four saves in the half to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
In the second half, Smith continued to play masterfully in goal, but Samford eventually broke through in the 75th minute when Leah Lippert scored her second goal of the season after shooting the ball through a crowd of Charleston defenders and into the net. Both Carolina Baxter and Hilary Samuels were credited with assists on the play.
From there, Samford hung on the rest of the match to preserve the win. At the end of the night, Smith made a total of nine saves on the 11 shots she faced on goal on the night. Offensively for the Cougars, Chrissy Caruso led the way, making four shots on the night.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday, Oct. 19th when they continue their road trip at Chattanooga. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
