
Cole Dawley Named Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week

CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Following a weekend in which she led the College of Charleston to a pair of victories in the Holiday Inn Charleston Riverview Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament Team, sophomore setter Cole Dawley (Charleston, S.C.) has been named the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending September 21.
Over the course of three matches and nine sets during the weekend, Dawley averaged 10.67 assists, 2.44 digs, 0.67 blocks, 0.78 kills and 0.33 service aces per game from the setter position. That effort helped lead the Cougars to wins over 2007 NCAA Tournament Second Round participant Delaware and Gardner-Webb. Facing another team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago in Duke University, Dawley dished out 31 assists and added six digs, a block, service ace and two kills.
She posted her best performance of the weekend with 36 assists, nine digs, a block, two kills and a .333 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb before wrapping up the tournament with a strong outing against the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens. In that match, the Charleston, S.C. native tallied 29 assists, seven digs, four blocks, two service aces and three kills with a .600 hitting percentage for an impressive 3-0 victory.
Dawley totaled 96 assists, 22 digs, six blocks and seven kills as she was named to the Holiday Inn Charleston Riverview Invitational All-Tournament Team. On the weekend, she hit for a .438 percentage.
It is the first time in her career that Dawley has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week and it is only the second such honor for College of Charleston volleyball over the past two seasons.
Having transitioned into the primary setter role for the 2008 season, Dawley currently leads the team with 9.69 assists per set and is second on the club with an average of 2.41 digs. She also contributes 0.69 blocks and 1.18 kills per game.
Dawley and the Cougars will next be in action when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. on September 26 as they open Southern Conference play against Wofford. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
