Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) posted his second straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Donavan Monroe (Waxhaw, N.C.) added 16 points as College of Charleston downed Davidson, 67-55, in Southern Conference action before 3,062 at Carolina First Arena on Saturday.
Charleston, which plays at UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. on Monday, improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league play. Davidson is 2-6 and 1-1. The Wildcats play at Gonzaga on Dec. 12. The win marks Charleston's third straight over Davidson dating back to last season.
Monroe had eight points and Casaan Breeden (Clio, S.C.) added six points that helped the Cougars to a 31-20 lead at intermission. Davidson, which got a team-high 10 points from Will Archambault, opened the second half on a 6-2 run that cut Charleston's lead to 33-26 with 18:51 left.
A jumper by freshman Willis Hall (Charlotte, N.C.) capped a 19-6 Charleston run that gave the Cougars a 52-32 lead with 8:29 remaining. Charleston's largest lead was 63-41 with 4:52 left.
Simmons, who also equaled his career-high with five blocked, hit 8-of-10 shots from the floor. Monroe, who's scored 16 points in each of his last three games and hit both of his 3-points tries against the Wildcats, is 10-for-12 from behind the arc over the past three games. Breeden added 11 points and, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Tony White, Jr. (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a game-high six assists.
The Cougars, who had just nine turnovers in the game, and added nine blocked shot. Davidson finished with 55-36 rebounding margin over Charleston, including 24-6 on the offensive glass. Charleston shot 44.3 percent from the floor for the game hitting on 27-of-61 attempts. Davidson shot only 27.9 percent (19-68).
