The College of Charleston men's tennis team opened the Southern Conference portion of its schedule with a 5-2 win over visiting Chattanooga at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Thursday.
Charleston, which improved to 3-6 and 1-0, plays host to Appalachian State at 2 p.m. on Friday. UTC fell to 1-11 and 0-5.
In singles play for Charleston, Tom Delme downed Pavel Vostikov 6-1, 7-6 at No. 2 singles, Mickael Boyer won over Alex Butnarcuic 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, Mickael Trintgnac defeated Dakota Pate 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and at No. 5 singles Joe Nicolazzi won a hard fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Rick van de Bovenkamp.
Charleston won 2-of-3 doubles matches. Omer Abramovich and Steven Myers teamed at No. 2 to beat Butnarcuic and Sam Parfitt, 8-1. At No. 3, Boyer and Trintignac downed van de Bovenkamp and Pate, 8-3.
