
CofC Women's Tennis Beats Elon, 4-3

College of Charleston swept the three doubles flights and then claimed the contest's first three singles decisions, holding off Elon for a 4-3 Southern Conference women's tennis win Friday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Cougars improved to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in Southern Conference play.
The doubles teams of Laura Borza and Amanda Schwarz (over Sally Wilkey and Whitney Butcher 8-0 at No. 3), Kinsey Casey and Keely Mulligan (over Anna Milian and Paige Kensrue 8-3 at No. 1) and Holly Dowse and Caroline Newman (over Daleen Kloppers and Elisa Simonetti 8-3 at No. 2) all emerged victorious for the Cougars (16-3 overall, 4-0 SoCon).
Singles wins by Mulligan (over Butcher 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4), Dowse (over Kensrue 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2) and Casey (over Wilkey 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5) extended Charleston's edge to 4-0, clinching the victory. The Phoenix (8-8, 3-3) salvaged the last three matches as Milian beat Borza 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Simonetti ousted Newman 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and Hayley Wahl overcame Nina Burgoon 7-5, 5-7, 11-9 at No. 6.
The Cougars stop by SoCon foe UNC Greensboro at 10 a.m. Saturday. Elon hits the road to Florida next week for a pair of non-league tilts during its Spring Break, visiting Jacksonville (10:30 a.m. Monday) and Bethune-Cookman (1:30 p.m. Thursday).
