Holly Dowse's straight set win at No. 1 singles helped 65th-ranked College of Charleston to a 7-0 Southern Conference win over Chattanooga in Southern Conference women's tennis action at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Monday.
Charleston, which plays host to Wake Forest at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. Charleston is riding an 8-match winning streak. UTC fell to 2-8 and 0-1.
Dowse earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Shaina Singh that stretched Charleston's lead to 2-0. Caroline Newman beat Charlotte Bossy 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Kinsey Casey beat Emily Hangstefer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Anna Lee Evans garnered a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Annie Green at No. 5.
Nina Burgoon had a 6-3, 7-6 win over Brianna Wishing at No. 6 singles, while Laura Borza earned a three set win at No. 2 singles.
The Cougars won the doubles point when Dowse and Casey won 8-2 at No. 1, Borza and Evans grabbed an 8-0 win at No. 2 and Newman and Schwarz won 8-7 at No. 3.
