CofC Men's Tennis Falls to Elon, 4-2 in SoCon Semifinals

ELON, N.C. ? The College of Charleston men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to Elon in the semifinals of the 2009 Southern Conference Championships on Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Cougars end the season with an 11-14 record, while Elon improved to 21-5 and advanced to the SoCon Championship match, which will be held tomorrow afternoon against Furman.

In doubles, Elon picked up a team point after winning two matches. In singles play, Elon took matches at the one and six spots to take a 3-0 lead.

Charleston made a comeback with back-to-back wins in the number four and three spots to cut Elon's lead to 3-2. Tom Delme was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Chase Helpingstine in the four spot, while Mickael Trintignac was a three-set (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) victor over Phillip Nemec at number three singles.

Elon, however, clinched the match at number five singles when Alberto Rojas defeated Mickael Boyer 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
